Free Sports Equipment Rental at Sport Ireland Campus
A new initiative, offering free sports equipment rental at the Sport Ireland Campus was launched today to provide the local communities and individuals with the opportunity to be more active in a barrier-free outdoor setting. Self-service sports equipment rental, with 4 equipment lockers across Sport Ireland Campus grounds is now available. The new equipment lockers, located at free to use facilities, are bookable on the Equip app and they offer simple, convenient, and accessible sport for all.
Both the local community and visitors to the campus can now rent free sports equipment such as basketball, table tennis, volleyball, soccer, badminton, boules and more. The lockers are located beside our outdoor sport courts that are the free-to-use, and they provide instant barrier-free access to all the benefits of sport.
This new initiative aims to foster community engagement and expand the opportunities for people of all ages and abilities to participate in sport. By providing free access to sporting equipment, the goal is to tackle inequality in sports and encourage everyone to take advantage of the numerous amenities available at Sport Ireland Campus.
Una May, Chief Executive Officer of Sport Ireland, said: “This new initiative has been introduced to help tackle inequality in sport by providing free access to sporting equipment for everyone. We want to encourage everyone to make the most of the many amenities available across Sport Ireland Campus. We hope the community and visitors of all ages and abilities will make the most of this equipment.”
Michael Murray, Chief Operations Officer of Sport Ireland Campus, stated "We have thousands of visitors, that run, jog or walk with their family on the grounds of the Sport Ireland Campus every week, and these new lockers will offer more sporting opportunities and fun to their visit.'"
How does it work?
Simply download the free Equip Sport mobile app on your phone, register with your phone number, select your desired sport and locker location, reserve and unlock the station using your, enjoy the available equipment, and have fun. When you finish your session, take a photo of the equipment properly placed back in the station to complete the process.
